湿式呼吸管：
其实就是一根管子加一个咬嘴，进水时则必须泳者吐气将水喷出，此类简易式呼吸管对于有游泳技巧及学习过浮潜者来说难度不大，但对于初学者来说，极可能无法一口气将管中积水喷干净而呛水。
半干式呼吸管：
则是在咬嘴前端有一个活门，阻止水进入嘴中，但管中仍有水，呼吸有些许阻力。在潜水超过呼吸管深度时，水会进入管内，管下部可排出后可避免水直接流入口中，是初学者较为容易入门的装备。
全干式呼吸管：
则是在管前设只出不进的活门，保持管子不进水。属于进阶的呼吸管，在呼吸管上方进气口，加装了一个单向进气阀，我们叫它全干呼吸管，因为有这个单向阀，即使管子整根在水里，也不会进水。不过，多了个部件，吸气的阻力当然也稍微大了点。其顶部有活动的浮阀，一旦有水即将淹没呼吸管，浮阀就会因为浮力而封闭管口，阻止进水。
