临沧茶厂始建于1956年
由云南省茶叶进出口公司“昆明茶厂”报总公司投资兴建
以适应云南省大力发展茶叶生产
增加红茶产量，支援出口需要
60年代主要以加工红茶和滇青茶为主
1970年，临沧茶厂下放到县管以后
云县、双江等地也相继建制了茶叶精制厂
同时开展收购青毛茶加工，供应内销
84年茶贸公司成立以后
临沧茶厂供应红茶和滇青茶给茶贸中心销售
直到90年茶贸公司撤销为止
90年代后期临沧茶厂被收购。
