2002年7月，安溪县被我国农业部中国特产之乡推荐暨宣传活动组织委员会授予“中国藤铁工艺之乡”，尚卿乡则是安溪藤铁工艺业的发源地。在尚卿，藤铁工艺遍地开花，全乡18个村有17个村73%的全半劳力从事竹、藤、铁编造加工，加工厂120多家，形成遍布各村的加工网络，从业人数近万人，是名闻遐迩的藤铁工艺之乡，是安溪县藤铁工艺品出口创汇的主要生产基地，从上个世纪七十年代至今，引领八闽藤铁工艺业30余年，誉满中外，名驰五洲。由于尚卿藤铁编历史悠久，传承不息，名师辈出，资源丰富，品类齐全，各呈其妙，加上网络信息发达，市场广阔，欧美各国的需求情况反馈迅速，因而使尚卿的藤铁工艺品源源不断畅销各地，产品远销美国、英国、日本、新西兰、加拿大等30多个地区，获得十分可观的经济效益，产值在全乡工业企业中占有52%比重。
